What a couple of months it’s been!

In April I photographed the Playmakers NFL Draft sponsor events for the Kansas City Sports Commission. These events put me up close to some of Kansas City’s football legends—Bobby Bell, Will Shields, and Trey Smith to name a few. Over lunch these men shared wonderful stories about their draft experiences and their time in the NFL.

It was so interesting to go behind the scenes to see the transformation of Union Station as it became home to the draft. What fun to be in the thick of it! Kansas City has much to be proud of.

Surprised to learn I do event photography? Through the years it’s been a consistent part of the work I do. Some of my clients include O’Neill Marketing, Powell Gardens, Kansas City Young Audiences, Visitation Grade School, as well as private parties.

May is always a busy time for me as people are booking late spring and summer sessions. Newborns, infants, and families always keep me hopping.

I’ll leave you with a small sampling of photographs from some of what has kept me busy these past several weeks.

I stood at the overlook of Liberty Memorial and photographed Union Station and the Kansas City skyline when the Royals won the 2015 AL Championship and again when the Chiefs won the 2020 AFC Championship.

I was honored when Shannon and Jason Pryor, owners of Pizza 51, asked if I could create something that symbolized the heart of sports in Kansas City for their new restaurant, The Combine, which opened in 2021.

I overlaid the two skyline images, did a bit of color editing magic, and had them printed as wallpaper by Boelte-Hall in Roeland Park.

The finished piece is made of six panels and measures 286”x119”.

This artwork can be seen in the event space at The Combine, 2999 Troost Avenue, Kansas City.

Most of the newborn work I do is in my Brookside studios but some clients prefer having their portraits made at home which is always a treat for me. Such was the case recently when I had the opportunity to photograph a family with their newest baby and his two older brothers.

In-home newborn sessions are a great way to make sure all your creature comforts are close to hand. And it lets the big kids run off to play while I work with just the baby.

Senior portraits on location usually means outside at a park, but sometimes on location means the restaurant your parents started when you were just six months old.

Such was the case when we did some of Rachel’s portraits at Pizza 51.
